Special Olympics teams win bronze, silver

The Grant County Jaguars, a special olympics basketball and cheerleading team competed in state tournaments and came back with silver and bronze medals.

The Jaguars basketball team competed in the Special Olympics State tournament in Louisville March 19 and 20.

The Jaguars won their first game of the state tournament against the Owensboro Blasters with a score of 27-11.

On the following day, the Jaguars competed in the championship game against Powell County Gladiators.

This game was a rematch from the regional tournament that was held in February. At the regional tournament, the Jaguars won in overtime, 27-25.

However, in the state championship game, it took two overtimes to declare a winner.

At the end of regulation the score was tied at 16. In the first overtime, both teams were playing hardnosed defense, only surrendering one basket on each side.

In double-overtime, the Gladiators scored four points and won the tournament 22-18.

The Jaguars won the silver medal.

The Jaguars cheerleading team was also able to bring home a medal, placing third at the Special Olympics Cheerleading Competition March 12.
