It’s a shame but Grant County lost two locally-owned and operated businesses this week.
Dairy Queen and Little Shrimp, both in Dry Ridge, have closed or will be closing by the end of the week. Dairy Queen closed on Monday and Shrimp will close on Saturday.
Donna Cain, owner of Little Shrimp, hung a simple message on the door that said the Shrimp was being forced due to economy and lack of business.
Her final plea in the note was that Grant County residents would shop locally. Amen!
The local small business community is the one who supports the little league programs, Project Graduation, the many church youth groups, Grant County Relay For Life and so many other worthwhile projects and programs.
But without local customers these businesses will continue to have to cut back and like the Little Shrimp, maybe eventually close their doors all together.
As the shopping frenzy grabs you this holiday season, remember to give the local merchants a chance and shop at home as often as you can.
Our community’s future really does depend on it.
