Summer Schaffer is the Grant County High School Youth Performance Award winner for February.
She is a senior at GCHS and is the daughter of Renee Bixler and Tony Schaffer.
Extra-curricular activities: I am the historian in the National Art Honor Society (N.A.H.S.)
Community involvement: I do community service through N.A.H.S.
Class schedule: My classes are Ceramics II, business, peer tutor for foundations of art, college algebra and a peer tutor for social studies
Favorite class or classes: My favorite class is ceramics II because creating art is one of the greatest joys in my life. I have complete control over what I make and no one can tell me I’m wrong or right. Everyone’s style is a little different so no two pieces look the same.
Favorite teacher(s): My favorite would have to be Emily Figueroa-Wolfe. Because she has taught me to look at the world from a different perspective and when something doesn’t go your way, not be too hard on yourself. Also, it’s never a boring day in her class.
What do you do for fun/recreation: For fun I draw, listen to music, play video games and hang out with the people I love the most, my friends, family and my boyfriend.
Future plans: My future plans are to graduate high school, go to college to become a graphic designer, have a family and to travel. It’s vague but it’s my plan so far.
What has been your most meaningful experience: My senior year in general. I know it’s not over yet but I know it will be soon, in just a few short months. We will be going our separate ways to start our own lives. It’s going to feel weird to not come back next year and see my friends everyday like I’m used to…but that’s life.
