Regional officers from GCHS attend annual FCCLA conference

-A A +A

The regional officers from Grant County High School attended the 58th Annual Kentucky Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) leadership conference  on June 11 through June 13 in Hardinsburg. The theme for this year was “KY FCCLA: Olympic Training Camp”. The Kentucky FCCLA regional officers learned about their duties from the KY FCCLA state officers and gained valuable leadership skills. The “Freshman Academy” had 20 freshman and eighth graders to participate in team building leadership activities. This was a series of workshops for incoming freshmen or sophomores that have a desire to take their leadership in FCCLA further.

Approximately 200 officers and advisers across the state were informed of Lifesmarts by former state officer alumni member Seth Woods, National lifesmarts coordinator. He also discussed his leadership from being a state officer.
While attending “Olympic Training Camp” members attended workshops on individual officer training, regional meetings, Competitive Events, FCCLA Awards, icebreakers, etiquette, public speaking and running for office.

A business session was held to vote on the Kentucky FCCLA 2012-2013 goals:
• Goal 1:  Each chapter will increase their membership by 13 percent or 13 Members.
• Goal 2:   Increase State Degree Participants.
• Goal 3:   Increase the State Wide Scholarship Donation.
• Goal 4:   Each chapter will participate in a state wide community service project.
• Goal 5:  Promote and Publicize FCCLA at the chapter, region and state level.
Those members attending leadership camp from Grant County High School were Caitlin Smith, region seven vice president of individual programs and Olivia Cahill, substitute for region seven vice president of finance Kristin Warren.
