Members of the Grant County High School cross country team gathered at the middle school on the morning of July 22 to participate in a game designed by coach Marlon Kinsey.

The object of the game was to run to nine different landmarks in and about the middle school, taking pictures on their cellphones to put into a photo contest near the end of practice.

Categories included: Best overall, dullest, prettiest/ugliest, most original.

Judges included Kinsey, Grant County News sports writer Matt Birkholtz, asisstant coaches and parents.

Winner of the most categories was the team led by senior Tyler Edmondson, including prettiest with, “Poker Face,” dullest with the team just standing on the field.

One of the most interesting photos that was for most original was from senior Danny Hess’ team, with them circled arond a telephone pole, acting like they were peeing on it. That photo was labeled, “Jalapeeing on a Stick,” named after ventriliquist Jeff Dunham’s character “Jalapeno on a Stick.”

The cross country team will open the season Aug. 27 under the lights at the “Saturday Night Lights VI” in Centerville, Ohio.

Their first home meet will be Sept. 10 for the 38th Annual Grant County Invite.

The Braves will also be hosting the KHSAA Regional meet on Nov. 5. Time is still to be announced.
