A Union man was killed while walking along Ky. 36 on Dec. 16.
William “Jargo” Bowling, 53, was struck by a pickup truck driven by Sheila Ray, 36, of Williamstown around 8 p.m. in the 3000 block of Ky. 36. Ray was driving a 2001 Dodge pickup and was traveling east.
According to Kentucky State Police, Ray was unable to avoid hitting Bowling because he was walking in the road and there was oncoming traffic.
Bowling was transported by helicopter to University of Cincinnati Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:45 a.m.
Police said Ray was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, but they believe that Bowling had been drinking.
“Alcohol may have been involved. Alcohol was found on him (Bowling),” said Trooper David Jones, public information officer for the Kentucky State Police.
Jones said police do not know why Bowling was walking on Ky. 36 nor where he was headed at the time of the accident.
The accident remains under investigation by Trooper Darren Kinman.
Funeral services for Bowling will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21 at the Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home in Verona. Burial will be in the New Bethel Cemetery in Verona.
