Online content moves to subscription based Feb. 24

You may have seen the story on the front of last week’s Grant County News concerning our website moving to a paid model.
On Thursday next week, the Grant County News website www.grantky.com will become a subscription-based news and information source.
This does NOT mean there will no longer be a printed version of the Grant County News. We received a phone call after the story appeared, asking if the rumor was true that the Grant County News would only be on the web.
I repeat the Grant County News will continue to be published as a printed product, but now has a new website with many new features including an electronic e-edition which are the same pages you hold in your hands if you subscribe or pick up a copy of the News at local outlets.
What does it mean to our loyal readers that the News’ website will move to a paid site?
If you are a News subscriber, you’ll continue to have access to all of our news, features and web-related products online. You won’t have to pay extra for it. However, you will need to sign up for an account and you will need a four-digit number from your subscription label to do so.
Some people fear that if they sign up for an account on our website they will be bombarded with unwanted e-mails, but they won’t. We may send out a special subscription offer, but it would only be once or twice a year at most.
If you already subscribe to the Grant County News, go to http://www.grantky.com/subscription_services and click the link for “Activate Existing Account.”
You’ll need the four-digit number from your subscription label, so have a recent edition accessible when you sign up. There’s a help image on the sign-up page that will show you exactly where to find your account number or go to page 14 inside this issue and there’s step-by-step directions for signing up.
If you are not already a Grant County News subscriber and you want to continue to access your community newspaper online, you’ll need to sign up for an account and purchase a subscription. Look for the “subscribe” button at the top of www.grantky.com or call 859-824-3343.
Online, you can get a subscription to the print and online product or you can choose to purchase an online-only subscription. An online only subscription will give you access to our electronic e-edition. Each week you’ll have instant access to a digital copy of the full version of our print newspaper.
You’ll be able to check out photos and read all of our stories. Plus, you’ll have instant access to all of the advertisements on our news pages as well as our special sections. You’ll also be able to read our classifieds and check out our special sections.
As publisher Ken Stone pointed out in the article last week, subscription revenue is an important part of funding for our news and information efforts. It’s important for our continued survival as a local business that our readers help pay for these services regardless of the version they choose to read – print or online. This allows us to continue to serve Grant County as a news and information provider.
We strongly believe we are the most comprehensive source for news about Grant County. You won’t want to miss all of the things we’re writing about.
So, if you have a subscription already, don’t wait. Go ahead and sign up today. If you don’t have one, join us for a free trial.
