Williamstown students chosen for Northern Ky. Honor Choir


Fifteen Williamstown Junior/Senior High students were recently selected as members of the Northern Kentucky Honor Choir.

The Northern Kentucky High School Honor Choir was held in November at Northern Kentucky University under the direction of Dr. Randy Pennington.

The Williamstown choir members were selected by their director, Tonya Fox, and rehearsed along with other Northern Kentucky high school students for three days prior to a public performance in the Greaves Concert Hall on the NKU campus.

High school honor choir members include: freshmen Eden Jackson and Dylan Evans, sophomore Seth Turner, juniors Tiffany Foley and Kayla Ousley and seniors Brittany Elliott and Simeon Skilling.

The Northern Kentucky Middle School Honor Choir will be held March 4 at Campbell County High School.

The Honor Choir students were selected by Fox, and will rehearse with other students from Northern Kentucky during the day, followed by a public performance that night.

Middle School Honor choir members include: seventh graders Benjamin Beighle, Cody Snow, Jeffrey Jackson and Brett Robbins and eighth graders Ariana Johnson, Jacelyn Adams, Ashley Marksbury and Emily Simpson.

“I am extremely proud of all of these students,” Fox said. “They work hard in my class everyday to improve their singing skills and are leaders in my classroom. I simply love working with all of these students.”

Three chosen for All State Band - Three Williamstown Band of Spirit members will perform Feb. 12 at the Kentucky Center for the Arts in Louisville as part of the prestigious Kentucky All-State Band.

Senior Josh Cook and juniors Conner Kinmon and Cierra Krist were named to All-State Band.

“In my opinion, this is the highest honor for an individual bandsman,” said Bob Gregg, WHS Band of Spirit director.

Kinmon and Krist play the trumpet, while Cook is in percussion.

The trio made the cut after auditioning twice, including in December at John Hardin High School.

As part of the All-State Band, they will participate in the Kentucky Music Educators Association In-Service Conference on Feb. 9-12.

The All-State Band will perform at 3 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Kentucky Center for the Arts in Louisville.

17 WHS students earn Select Band honors - Seventeen Williamstown middle and high school students will be a part of the Northern Kentucky Select Band program in March.

Students auditioned for Select Band on Jan. 8 at Summit View Middle School in Independence.

In the high school division, participants were divided into two ensembles, with the Wind Ensemble being the top band and the Symphonic Band being the second band.

Williamstown Band of Spirit members who were named to Northern Kentucky High School Wind Ensemble include Mary Grace Ostertag (bass clarinet) - second chair, Conner Kinmon (trumpet) - second chair and Cierra Krist (trumpet) - fifth chair.

WHS members of the Northern Kentucky High School School Symphonic Band include Isamu Sunayama (alto sax) - third chair, Hannah Riley (clarinet) - sixth chair, Jessica Dalton (clarinet) - 15th chair, Jessica Knott (flute) - sixth chair and Olivia Chandler (trombone) - ninth chair.

Williamstown Junior High students named to the Northern Kentucky Middle School Select Band include Andrew Davis (alto sax) - third chair, Dillon Howard (baritone sax) - first chair, Hanson Zhou (baritone sax) - second chair, Billy Carpenter (euphonium) - first chair, Ben Trumbo (horn) - fifth chair, Joel Ostertag (trombone) - sixth chair, Karyna Davis (trumpet) - third chair, Simon Hankins (tuba) - third chair and Jarrod Baker (tuba) - fifth chair.

The Select Bands will participate in a three-day rehearsal at Northern Kentucky University from March 10-12 that will conclude with a concert event.

Williamstown students chosen for All-State Chorus - Six Williamstown students have been chosen for the 2011 All-State Chorus.

The All-State Chorus members will participate in three different choirs.
Seventh grader Ben Beighle, eighth graders Jacelyn Adams and Ariana Johnson and freshman Dylan Evans were named to the Kentucky Junior High Mixed Chorus.

Eighth grader Alexis Iseral was selected for the Kentucky Junior High Treble Chorus.

Sixth grader Maggie Walters was chosen as a member of the Kentucky Children’s Chorus.

“Students were selected to participate in these elite groups through a rigorous audition process at the state level,” said Tonya Fox, Williamstown choir director.  

The All-State students will perform Feb. 10 at the Kentucky Center for the Arts in Louisville.
