Cooks up fun, learning

Name: Marlene McComas of Williamstown

Lunch and Learn and Dinner Club

Hobbies: I enjoy gardening, sewing, reading, painting and making jewelry.

Other clubs/organizations:
I am a member of the Grant County Fair Board, Williamstown Womans Club, Carlsbad Garden Club, Grant County Chamber of Commerce and the Williamstown Merchant’s Association.

Years involved in homemakers: I have been affiliated with homemakers for 55 years, but an active member for 35 years.

What do you get out of being a member of homemakers: Satisfaction of being a part of a group that supports my values: family, education and community strength. I get to associate with the people who enjoy the same things that I enjoy.

What is the best lesson you’d pass on to other homemakers: Do it all! Homemaker organizations offer so many opportunities—practically for free. Learn, share and enjoy!

What is the most meaningful homemaker project that you’ve participated in:
Collecting over 60,000 Beanie Babies for Kentucky guardsmen to give to Iraqi children and hearing their heart warming stories.

What is your favorite book: “The Client” or “The Firm.” Anything by John Grisham.

What is your favorite song and type of music: Alabama’s “Feels So Right,” “Star Spangled Banner”—country, Bluegrass, folk and classical.

Favorite  holiday:
Christmas—giving and sharing!

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why:
I’ve already been there, but would go back and take my entire extended family to South Africa.

Tell one thing about yourself that might surprise your friends and family if they knew:
I am the happiest when I am in the security of my home with my husband. No conversation—just a good book and a big glass of ice water with lime. No pressure. (Because I usually thrive on pressure—but I do have to have down time!)
