Landing a job in today’s challenging economy is no easy task, but for anyone attempting to enter the workforce, making a good first impression is a crucial step towards success. Wearing proper business attire to a job interview, for example, speaks volumes about what you have to offer.
But for women attempting to enter the workforce, a common problem exists: without a job, they can’t afford a suit, and without a suit, they can’t get a job.
“We know how important a job interview is. That is why we partnered with our local Dress for Success affiliate to help disadvantaged women make that first impression a good one!” said Brenda Chapman, district sales manager for Dressbarn in Dry Ridge.
During Dress for Success’s S.O.S. - Send One Suit - Weekend, Feb. 19 through Feb. 22, Dressbarn stores across the country, including the Dry Ridge location, will collect clothing from customers and donate them to underprivileged women in the local community seeking career development support. Over 200,000 suits and separates have already been donated by consumers at Dressbarn stores during the past seven years. The donations are distributed to more than 60 Dress for Success affiliates throughout the United States and have provided for, on average, more than 31 percent of their annual suiting needs.
Participating in the event is simple: women are encouraged to donate one new or nearly-new interview suit to help another woman enter the workforce and change her life.
“This event gives us the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of women right here in the community where we do our business,” Chapman added. “We want everyone to realize that when they make a donation, they are giving another woman the confidence to enter or return to the workplace, make a personal first impression and land a job that can change her life.”
This year, the spokeswoman for S.O.S. - Send One Suit - Weekend is Bobbi Brown, founder and chief executive officer of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and member of the Dress for Success Worldwide Board of Directors.
Local residents are being asked to donate new or gently-used suits and other professional apparel to Dressbarn in Dry Ridge or any other Dressbarn location during S.O.S. - Send One Suit - Weekend, Feb. 19 through Feb. 22. To show their appreciation to their customers and thank them for supporting this event, Dressbarn stores will provide an additional 15 percent off total purchase savings to every customer who brings in a donation during Send One Suit Weekend! A donation receipt will also be provided for all suit and career donations.
