The Grant County volleyball team started slow by dropping the first set in their district tournament matchup against Walton-Verona.
But the Lady Braves fought back before falling in three sets (21-25, 25-22, 24-26) on Oct. 12.
“We hustled during the last two points, but the ball just did not fall our way,” coach Kelli Lee said.
According to Lee, seniors Rachel Kitchens, Dawn Plunkett and Katie Gregg played the best they had all year.
“Rachel was all over the place,” Lee said. “One second, you think that no one is going to get the ball then Rachel flies in. Katie and Dawn played solid all the way around.”
The Lady Braves had hoped to advance to the district championship game and earn a spot in the regional tournament, but Lee was still proud to see them progress and develop over the course of the season.
“While we may not have won, we made progress all year long, taking baby steps and large steps,” Lee said. “Our best accomplishment is that we finished the season fighting together like a true team until the last ball fell. This team has nothing to be ashamed of because they fought so hard.”
Kitchens was named to the all-tournament team for the Lady Braves.
