With their Feb. 7 game against Spencer County canceled, the Lady Braves will now prepare for their next road game at Deming Feb. 11.
The Lady Braves are currently on a two-game losing streak since beating Lloyd Memorial Jan. 29.
Even with the losing streak, coach Darrell Guffey sees improvement from his players.
“We are playing better,” he said. “We are improving at the right time and are a much better basketball team from the beginning of the season.”
Guffey said that his guards have really come on and scored for the Lady Braves in the last couple of games while their leading scorer is getting guarded heavily.
“Teams are really focusing on Billie Hearn,” he said. “Opponents are working on keeping our forwards out of the game.”
With the defense keeping their eye on Hearn, Paige Elliott, Morgan McClure and Brittany Hearn, Guffey wants players like Macy Wright and Hannah Kitchens to take over the ballgame.
“When defenses do this I want my players to take shots and sometimes you have to avoid passing the ball a whole lot in order to get those shots,” he said.
As the season is winding to a close and with the Spencer County game canceled, the Lady Braves have one final home game for the season and their opportunity to celebrate the seniors on the team, Brittany Hearn, Logan Kidwell and Seneca Sullivan.
“Three super kids and really great people,” he said. “They are my first group of freshmen to go through the system all four years. They are three kids that do the right thing all the time and three we are going to miss from the program because they do all the right things.”
Senior night is set for Feb. 18 against Owen County. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. with the ceremony for the seniors to begin after the conclusion of the junior varsity game. Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for students.
