Fans seeking a thrill for speed are in for a treat this weekend when the cars of the Indy Racing League invade Kentucky Speedway for the "Meijer Indy 300 Presented by Pepsi and Edy's." The race, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 9 is the fifth and final race of the 2008 schedule at the speedway.

A season ago, fans watched Tony Kanaan led 131 of 200 laps on his way to victory lane in a race that featured several bizarre moments in the final laps.

With 23 laps remaining, Kanaan made contact with Helio Castroneves, who was a lap down, sparking a flurry of wild moments for drivers.

The gates open at 3 p.m. on Aug. 8 for a fan fest, which includes practice and qualifying sessions before closing with a garage-area autograph session.

One day later, gates will open at 2 p.m. with practice being held at 2:30 p.m.

The green flag for the "Meijer Indy 300" drops at 6:30 p.m. and the Firestone Indy Lights "Kentucky 100" will take to the track at 9:15 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 888-652-7223.
