The Importance of God’s Word

The BIBLE, yes that’s the book for me, I stand upon the word of God, the BIBLE! That was a familiar and fun song that many of us sang as children, about the importance of the word of God.
It cannot be overstated that the Bible is a foundation of our faith. The Word of God is central to understanding who God is and what He desires from his people. I think most believers would agree that the holy scriptures are vital. However, our actions sometimes reflect a different reality.
I think we have misunderstood what the purpose of the Bible is. We have treated the Bible as a self help book and a book we use to help us in times of crisis. In fact, we have treated the Bible and described it like an“Operators Manual,” when we have a problem we get it out, go to a certain section and try and figure out what is wrong in our lives.
I think a more appropriate use of the Bible would see the Word of God as the revelation of God and of Jesus and the story of God. God is the main character in the Bible. If we see the Bible as an opportunity to get to know God and his nature, his work and his love, we will understand what our lives are supposed to be about—a relationship with Him.
Instead of seeing Jesus as a “genie in a bottle” or as a quick fix, we will see him for what he is.  He is the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Creator, Healer and Defender. He is the one who loved us enough to die for us and has promised to reign eternal. He is supreme and majestic and Almighty. When we see the Bible in terms of getting to know God and living for Him, it changes how we use the Bible and see the Bible.
The word of God is a treasure, a gift and a book that is life changing. Pick it up today and read to see what a great God we serve.
