High water traps couple

Fourteen month-old, adults escape fast rising water by climbing onto truck bed, hood of vehicle

A Dry Ridge couple and a 14-month-old child escaped injury Oct. 9 after being rescued from high waters during a downpour of rain.

Kentucky State Police received a 911 call just after 5 a.m. from 29-year-old William Upton, who told the dispatcher that he was caught in the rising water on Elliston Mount Zion Road near KY 467.

Also in the Toyota Tacoma pickup was Upton’s girlfriend, 35-year-old Elizabeth Rogers, and a baby.

KSP, along with Dry Ridge and Williamstown fire departments, responded to the scene.
