Help build back - bigger, better!

-A A +A

You are invited (and your help is really needed) on July 7 when the Grant County Little League is holding a benefit at Grant County Park in Crittenden to raise money to rebuild its field house/concession stand.
The structure at Bobby Gibson Memorial Field at Grant County Park in Crittenden was destroyed May 21 due to suspected arson.
Kentucky State Police are still handling the investigation and a $1,000 reward is available for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspect(s).
The fire didn’t just destroy bricks and mortar but caused major headaches for the little league and parks and recreation as it burned out a transformer meaning there was no lighting available at the fields, which in turn meant, games were either rescheduled or cancelled because of the lack of lights to play at night.
The building was insured for about $40,000, but GCLL also lost approximately $10,000 in equipment and other contents inside the field house, said Jamey Lewis, Grant County Little League commissioner.
Money raised at the benefit, which will begin at 10 a.m., will be used by GCLL to recover lost revenue, equipment and to raise money to rebuild a new concession stand and press box.
Lewis said the benefit will lift everyone’s spirits, especially those who worked hard to raise money to build the concession stand/field house the first time.
The GCLL’s goal is to build an even bigger and better facility to better serve our community’s youth and their families who utilize the facilities.
The benefit will feature little league coaches playing ball in dresses at 10 a.m. There will also be 3-on-3 basketball, water activities, raffle items, concessions, a silent auction, a home run derby, corn hole tournament and a pig roast.

The hopeful result of this fundraising activity is that what is built back will be able to better suit the needs of the teams using the facility and that means our children and community are the real winners.
The losers of this story, however, are the person’s responsible for breaking into the concession stand and setting fire to it.

Unfortunately, their stupidity cost us all.
For those who cannot attend the fundraiser on July 7, donations would be welcome.

Anyone who wants to donate money or help out at the benefit, can call 859-428-0781 and leave a message or can mail donations to: Grant County Little League (GCLL) P.O. Box 345, Dry Ridge, KY 41035.
