Greenhouse students donate plants

-A A +A
By The Staff

The greenhouse students of Sarah Baker, a GCHS agricultural teacher, recently donated poinsettia plants to local nursing home and hospital patients.

The greenhouse classes learn about a variety of plants and how to care for them over the course of the year. The poinsettia plant is one such plant that was studied this semester. The greenhouse is a resource tool for students where they can actually put to use what they learn in the classroom.

However, it is not only an educational tool but a business as well. The plants that are grown in the greenhouse are sold to the public at various times in the year.

In the fall, a variety of mums were sold and recently the poinsettias. All the funds made from the sale of the plants are put back into the greenhouse account in order to purchase other greenhouse supplies for future plants.

Students participating in the donation were (left to right) Darryl Hearn, Tyler Haar, Ashley Manning and Justin Mertz. Baker supervised the students during the donation.
