The Grant County Braves traveled to Henry County on Feb. 25 to face Oldham County in the first round of the 8th Region Tournament.
The Braves were determined not to let the Oldham Colonels walk away with the game, but their battle against Simon Kenton on Feb. 22 took its toll.
The Braves lost to Oldham County 61 – 44.
“For it to be a big game like it was, I did not think we played as hard as we could have played,” said Coach Jim Hicks.
Hicks said his team played so hard against the Pioneers, the Braves hadn’t fully recovered.
If the Braves could not find a way to beat Oldham County, their season would come to an abrupt end.
The second half of the game was Grant’s undoing.
Oldham County took control of the game.
Austin Anglin scored 14 points for the Braves, but it wasn’t enough to push the Braves.
“Oldham County did a good job on the offensive boards. We told our players coming into the game, they were a good offensive rebounding team and we thought that would be a key to the game,” Hicks said.
Hicks said he felt the key difference in the game came down to rebounding.
“We did not have much time to prepare, but they killed us on the offensive boards,” Hicks said.
The Braves, according to Hicks, came into the game confident, but tired.
“We will take a little time off and then we will get back to work and start getting ready for next year,” he said.
