The Grant County High School music program has set a new school record, as 25 of its students were chosen for the 2013 Northern Kentucky Select Band ensembles.
The Northern Kentucky District six Select Band auditions took place at Summitview Middle School on Jan. 12, with 35 GCHS students auditioning for the seats. These students were among hundreds of students from all area high schools auditioning for seats in either of two ensembles that represents Northern Kentucky’s most talented high school musicians.
Auditions involve the performance of a prepared piece and requires students to play alone before the judges.
Participation in the Northern Kentucky Select Band ensembles will allow students the opportunity to attend band clinics and perform with other top students under the direction of a renowned director.
The finale event will include performances by the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic bands at 2:30 p.m. on March 16 at Northern Kentucky University’s Greaves Concert Hall.
This level of excellence, as exhibited by these individual students, GCHS Band Director David Owens, and the band program at large, is a direct reflection of the skill, dedication and practice that takes place daily in the classroom, on the field, and in the homes of each student.
