Even with the outstanding effort by Henry County junior Ben Schoreder's 34 points, the Grant County Braves defeated the Wildcats 71-60 Jan. 14 at Grant County High School.
Braves coach Jim Hicks places the win on the effort he has seen his team perform in practice. "The team has worked so hard this week," he said. "Harder than any team I have ever had. These kids have worked their tail off and that is a huge plus."
Another strong suit for Grant County, was holding Henry County to just 13 points in the first half. The Braves (7-9) were led by junior guard Jalen Kinmon with 26 points. Juniors Andrew Hurley and Tyler Carr were also in double-figures with 15 points each.
One missing factor for the Braves in the game was their leader, senior Josh Blackburn, who suffered an ankle injury in practice Jan. 13.
Coach Hicks said that Blackburn could have played tonight, but since Blackburn was unable to practice Friday, that it was best for him to sit and let the ankle heal.
Next for the Braves is a makeup game against Owen County. The game will be played Jan. 17 at Owen County High School in Owenton. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
