Give things of eternal value this Christmas

-A A +A

“Can I have a quarter please!”

As a mother of four, these words make me cringe—knowing what my little guys are aspiring to get with this precious coin.

You know, those vending machines at child-eye-level that have little trinkets of no value. Still the asking continues for a toy that will not even make it out of our vehicle into our house of more trinkets of little value.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy receiving gifts and even better giving some thoughtful gifts to my family and especially to my children. Still, I can’t help but think that our desires and prayers at times must sound, to our heavenly Father similar to my children’s pleads for worthless trinkets.

As God’s word says that the things that are seen are temporary, but the things that are not seen are eternal (2 Corinthians 4:18).

I encourage you to give things of eternal value this year: forgiveness, love, grace and bring peace to your family.

If you have family to be with this Christmas Eve, take time to enjoy them as 1 Timothy 6:17 says: God is the one who gives us richly all things to enjoy.

For those with a desire to worship with communion and others this Christmas Eve, we would like to offer an invitation at Gardnersville Baptist Church to attend our service at 6 p.m. Dec. 24. For more information or inclement weather, call Joseph Kozar at 859-824-7553. Have a Merry Christmas allowing the love of our Savior to reign in your home.
