A season removed from winning two games, the Grant County Middle School girls' soccer team is off to a strong start, which includes winning their first four games of the season.
The Lady Braves opened the season with a 2-1 win over Owen County with seventh grader Gwen MacAdams scoring both goals. From there, GCMS defeated Gray Middle School 1-0, Owen County 1-0 and Bondurant 1-0.
Against Gray Middle School, Cally Miller, an eighth grader, scored the goal, while MacAdams doomed the Lady Rebels of Owen County with another goal. Molly Pelfrey, a sixth grader, scored the lone goal against Bondurant.
Earning time in the goal have been eighth grader Megan Cope and seventh grader Mackenzie Tucker.
"I have been pleasantly surprised by the way the season has begun. I am proud of the effort and play of our team," said Mattingly, who coached the Lady Braves to a 2-7-1 record last year.
Mattingly said the success of the team due in part to the "growing impact of the recreational soccer program in the county."
