GCMS boys' soccer team rebuilds

When the boys' soccer season began, Grant County Middle School coach Anna Day knew her team would undergo several changes as a result of losing many eighth graders.

Despite the losses in personnel, the Braves have a full roster of 23 players, many of whom have played little or no soccer, according to Day.

"However, many players have made great strides. The players have really improved their skills since the beginning of the season, and it is great to see the transition of skills as the season progresses," Day said.

At press time, the Braves are 3-3-1 with six games remaining. Much of the success has to do with the play of eighth graders Oscar Aguazul and Danny Turner, along with seventh grader Forrest Schmitt.

Day said that seventh graders Zach Fryman and Eddie Maya are also playing well.

"They have contributed a great deal to our team as they willingly switch positions to benefit the team," Day said.
