GCHS speech and drama take first at tournaments

On Oct. 31, the Grant County High School Speech and Drama Team traveled to Bardstown to compete in the second annual Bardstown/Graves County Swing Invitational Tournament.

In a swing tournament, two schools will host their own tournament simultaneously, allowing students the chance to compete in two different tournaments in one day.

Eleven schools from across the Commonwealth of Kentucky attended the competitions: Bardstown High School, Bethlehem High School, Bullitt East High School, Central Hardin High School, Grant County High School, Graves County High School, Kentucky Country Day Upper School, Larue County High School, North Oldham High School, Southwestern High School and Trinity High School.

The competition was extremely successful for the students of Grant County High School,as they earned a first place finish at both tournaments by over 100 sweepstakes points. The school placements were as follows:

The individual results from each tournament are below – these championships mark the first overall team wins for GCHS in the 2009-2010 tournament season as well as the 20th and 21st overall team wins for the GCHS Speech and Drama Team.

In addition to taking first place at both tournaments, the team took second place out of 12 teams at the Larue County Tournament on Oct. 24.
