The sun was shining; the stands were full as the Grant County Band took the field at 2 p.m. at Ryle High School for their 2A preliminary performance.

The band marched onto the field to the cheers of parents, fans and the Grant County football team.

This was the first Mid-States contest Grant County has attended and the bands class is determined by band size not school size. Grant County swept all categories of the 2A division where they competed against seven bands.

Finals competition was only open to the top eight bands from preliminary competition and Grant drew 8 p.m. as their finals performance time.

The sun was down, a little chill in the air as Grant County took the field for their finals performance against the other bands from Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio. Grant County finished fifth overall in this tournament of 22 bands.

Grant County will be travelling to Madison Southern High School in Berea, Kentucky to perform in the KMEA Class AAAA East Regionals Oct. 23.
