GATEWOOD GUARDS TOMB OF UNKNOWN SOLDIER

-A A +A

For 24 hours a day, 365 days a year since 1937, in rain sleet, snow and the sweltering heat, men guard the resting place of three unnamed service members in Arlington National Cemetery.
Jonathan Gatewood of Dry Ridge joined the armed forces after he graduated Grant County High School two years ago. After extensive training he was chosen for the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, known as “The Old Guard.”
“These guys want to be here, they work hard to stay here,” Sergeant of the Guard, Sgt. 1st Class Tanner Welch said.
Gatewood is the son of Diane Henry of Dry Ridge.
