Devanny (Dev) King, a senior from Medina High School (suburb of Cleveland, Ohio), formerly of Williamstown, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Georgetown College. King, a 6 foot 1-inch center, is a captain for her squad and is a leader on and off the court.
Georgetown college’s head coach Susan Johnson and assistant coach Andrea McCloskey traveled to North East Ohio to find King’s entire basketball team, principals, coaching staff and parents in attendance for the event.
“This is a big deal for the girls’ basketball program here in Medina,” said head coach Chris Hassinger. “We will have to review the records, but we believe that Dev is the first girl in the history of our school to receive a full scholarship to playbasketball.”
In addition, she received a presidential scholarship for academics from Georgetown.
King attended Williamstown Independent school, until the third grade, and is a member of the Gumlick Baptist church. She is the daughter of the late Donald King and Della McDonald of Medina, Ohio.
Her decision to attend Georgetown was influenced by her grandmother, the late Mildred King, who was a Georgetown alumni, and because she will be “going back home to Kentucky.”
