Easter: Celebration of life

-A A +A

Easter is one of the best times of the year. Spring is just around the corner. You can buy "Peeps" at the store and there are always eggs to color. There is something about this holiday that propels us into good spirits. Maybe it’s the warm weather, baseball season beginning (Go Reds) or the hope of summer coming.

I believe there is a bigger reason for the hope that spring brings to us. This hope is found is something much more profound. The hope of Easter comes in the reality of why we celebrate with so much anticipation.

Easter is a celebration of life. It is a celebration of the hope of eternal life. Easter is a celebration of God’s power over creation and his power over life and death. Easter is a celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The importance of his resurrection cannot be overstated.

Jesus Christ, the son of God, died on a cross for our sin. Without his death we have no hope of forgiveness, no hope of peace, no hope of eternal life. However, the story does not stop there. If Jesus would have just simply died, we would not have that hope. Jesus on the third day rose from the dead. His resurrection showed his power over death and the grave.

The hope of life comes in Jesus’ death and resurrection. Easter is our chance to celebrate our life now in Christ and in eternity. Jesus said in John 11 that his is the "Resurrection and Life," that is what makes this holiday so powerful.

See you in church.
