The new Dry Ridge Post Office is nearing completion with a planned January 2011 opening.
Construction on the $1 million facility on 1.4 acres of land at the corner of Brentwood Drive and U.S. 25 began this summer.
It will replace the current 1,500 square feet of leased space in the Dry Ridge City Building at 31 Broadway.
The post office has been at its current location for nearly four decades. It was built in 1971, along with the city building under Mayor Howard O’Banion.
Midland Retail of Montgomery, Ohio and Rockwood Properties of Sycamore Township, Ohio is in charge of building the 4,800-square-foot building.
“I’m very excited. We need the space really bad,” said Betty Milner, postmaster of the Dry Ridge Post Office. Milner has been with the post office for 30 years.
The post office leases the space from the city for $1,658 per month, according to city officials.
With limited parking and space inside the post office, a new facility was needed, Milner said. Plans include an open house when a firm opening date is set.
