Belinda Furman, a fourth grade teacher at Dry Ridge Elementary, was named the April 2013 Teacher of the Month by Zimmer Motors and Classic Country 106.7.
Furman was nominated by a parent, Lisa Rogers.

“My son is in the fourth grade and this is the first year he has truly wanted to go to school. Ms. Furman goes above and beyond to bond with each child and ensure that they feel loved and cared for. She is in tune with each of her students and gives each of them the attention needed to master a topic,” Rogers wrote in her nomination.

When Furman was absent from school due to an illness in her family, Rogers said her son said, “This has been the worst week ever.”
Rogers said when she asked him why he said it was because Ms. Furman hadn’t been at school.

“Ms. Furman is a very appreciative, humble person who does not realize how important she is in the lives of children,” Rogers wrote.
Furman has been teaching since 2000, when she received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Eastern Kentucky University. In 2004 she received her master’s degree in instructional leadership from EKU. In 2010, she achieved the National Board certification.

Furman received a pizza party for her class, as well as flowers and $100 for school supplies.
