Richard Lonkard - A benefit is planned for 6 to 11 p.m. Aug. 6 at JMB Hall in Dry Ridge for Richard Lonkard, who was severely injured in an accident on May 30. The benefit will feature food, silent auction items, cake walks and music.

Donations of soft drinks, baked goods and items for the silent auction are needed.

Nicole Cobb - A benefit is planned for 4 to 11 p.m. Aug. 15 at Woodies Tavern in Florence. Nicole is the niece of Jamie Baker-Nantz, editor of the Grant County News. She was diagnosed with colon cancer on March 10 and underwent surgery. She has also endured several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. She also lost her job of 16 years. The cost is $10 and the benefit will include raffles, silent auction, food and entertainment.

Family of Randy Whitley - A co-ed softball tournament is planned for Aug. 7 at Mullins Field in Williamstown. The entry fee is $125. All teams should register before 6 p.m. on Aug. 5. A homerun derby with top prize will also be awarded. There will be activies for children and concessions. Raffles of more than $1,000 in donated prizes will also be held during the day. Whitley, the father of three children, was killed in an auto accident on July 20 in Campbell County. He was also the second of four siblings to die in less than a five-month period. Grant County Special Olympics - 1 to 5 p.m. Aug. 8. Parking lot of Bucks or Less in Williamstown (1100 N. Main Street.) This car wash will benefit Grant County Special Olympics.


• Dinovaite Adoption Fair - Aug. 7, noon to 4 p.m. at Dinovite, 101 Miller Drive, Crittenden. There will be dogs that range in size from 10 pounds to large dogs. All dogs will be microchipped, have up to date vaccines and include a spay/neuter voucher.

• Kroger Adoption Fair - Aug. 8 at the Walton Kroger.

Each new adoption will receive a free pet starter kit from Dinovite.

Angel Food - Get a medium-sized box of groceries for $29 per unit. Angel Food is not just for low-income families, but anyone who wished to order. The August menu includes New York strip steaks, chicken, ground beef, fish, pork chops, broccoli, carrots, corn, cauliflower, pasta, milk and eggs. The deadline to order using cash, check or food stamps is 2:30 p.m. Aug. 20. To place an order online the deadline is Aug. 22. Food will be distributed from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 28.
