Hello, Grant County. My name is Brian Melton and like a lot of you I am a huge Kentucky Wildcat basketball fan. And like you, I have a full time job that requires much more of me than just watching or reading any and every bit of information available related to my greatest passion.

To remedy our shared affliction I thought that you might be interested in getting a local opinion, and hopefully some insightful commentary, on all things Kentucky basketball. I approached the Grant County News about writing a column. My column will appear on the Grant County News Web site at www.grantky.com.

Here’s how this will work, I’ll travel to Lexington to cover each home game (sorry, wife and kids) to give you a first hand account of the spectacle that is Kentucky basketball. (I’ll even tell Ashley Judd hello for you if she’s there) I’ll give you insight into what the team is going through and what I think will happen as the season continues. I will provide a recap of each game and preview upcoming games as well. I’ll tell you what I think the team is doing well and what’s not working.

I’ll keep you up to date on any recruiting or other news that will have an impact on the team in the future because as you well know, basketball season never ends. So I hope you’ll join me after each and every game as we make our way to my favorite time of the year: March Madness.

You may be wondering, who is Brian Melton? I am currently employed by St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Grant County as the nursing supervisor of physician specialty services. I am a graduate of Grant County High School and hold a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Northern Kentucky University as well as a bachelor of science degree in journalism from the University of Kentucky. I was raised and currently live in Dry Ridge with my wife, Jacqueline, and sons, Darius and Trent. I am an active member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Independence. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, running, deer hunting and watching sports. My e-mail address is: bamelt02@icqmail.com.

I hope you’ll let me know what you think of my thoughts on UK basketball. Please share comments with me.
