Name: Carleen Ficker

Job title/school: RTI coordinator/reading specialist at Williamstown Independent Schools

Job duties: organizing and designing reading programs that work, training teachers and parents, working with children that are critical with reading issues.

Educational background: Masters in reading/then reading specialist, Springer Center - reading, Orton Gillingham trained

What is your favorite part of the job: Working with the children and acting as an interventionist to the teachers, organizing special reading events, researching best practices, products and implementing them by acting as a team leader.

What is the last book you read?: “Mrs. Kennedy and Me,” by Clint Hill and “Secret Service Agent, Alexander the Great.” I was reading both of these at the same time.

What is your favorite song and type of music?: Country because it tells a story. “Hey, Pretty Girl.” My husband gave me the CD.

Favorite holiday: Thanksgiving- review all that we have have been given and give thanks to our creator.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? Ireland. It is the land of my ancestors.

Tell one thing about yourself that might surprise your friends and family if they knew: I love yoga and karate and have taken the second set of classes for a Reki Master.

What advice would you give a student today: If you believe it, you can achieve it!
