Well, that was anything but easy or pretty for that matter, but it was a good victory over a previously undefeated Big East team
Kentucky Wins 72-58 over Notre Dame
Quick thoughts after the game:
-
Terrence Jones was huge, making big shots, including some questionable 3s that thankfully went in, led the team with 27 pts, 17 rebounds, made 7-10 FTs
-
Harrellson picked up 2 early fouls again and had to go to the bench, team struggled with interior defense and had no offensive rebounding. Hope he quits getting early fouls.
-
Ben Hansbrough hot in the first half with 19 points and seemingly couldn't miss, not to mention a smug smile and taunting of the crowd--2nd half held to only 2 FTs and smile wiped away. The crowd gave him a nice chorus of boos as he left the game
-
Defense in the second half was probably the best effort of the young season plus it helped that Notre Dame couldn't throw it in the ocean
-
Even with the Irish struggling from the floor, Kentucky still struggled to put them away
-
Freshman mistakes continue to plague this team: Too many questionable decisions-bad shot selection, needless turnovers, still struggle at times to get easy shots with the offense
-
Brandon Knight injured at the end of the game: looked to be cramps, but did look like he fell awkwardly on his foot/leg
-
One Indiana school down, one to go with the Indiana Hoosiers up next on Saturday
-
Blue Kentucky court in Freedom Hall is hilarious and Denny Crum is confused somewhere in Louisville
This team has a lot to learn and can improve in multiple areas, but you can't teach talent, which they have a ton of, will be interesting to see how they develop. Oh and it wouldn't hurt if Enes Kanter got eligible either.
GO CATS!!!
