Over the Christmas break, the Grant County Braves traveled to Coral Springs, Florida, to participate in the Kruel Holiday Classic.

During the road trip, the Braves put together what is likely their most impressive three-game stretch of the young season against a trio of teams that would almost surely rank among the best in Kentucky.
And while the Braves won only one of the three road games, that does not take away from how well the team played and the improvements that continue to be made under first-year head coach Brandon Grammer.

“We played excellent. I was very pleased,” said Grammer. “We were able to put things together defensively and played real well against three very good teams.”
Grant County opened against Zion Lutheran High (Fla.) and more than held its own in a 79-69 loss. The Braves continued to impress in a 62-48 win over Salem (Ga.) before falling 57-47 against North Broward Prep (Fla).

“Playing in a tournament like this gives us a chance to see some high caliber teams and players,” said Grammer. “Not that we don’t see that night in and night out in the state of Kentucky, but we don’t see the kind of athleticism that you see when you play teams from Florida. That was a really good benefit to us.”
