The Northern Kentucky University Grant County Campus students won all three top awards for the annual NKU Book Connection Writing Contest. McKenna Webster earned first place, Kyle Rahshulte took the second place prize and Carissa Walton won third place.
The contest was part of the university’s annual Book Connection program where all freshmen read a book and use it for class assignments. This year’s book is ‘Where am I Wearing?’ by Kelsey Timmerman. The three winning students wrote essays based on a section of the book where the author writes an advice letter to his younger self. The students wrote letters to themselves as high school freshmen.
The assignment was part of the class “Orientation to College and Beyond” taught by Sam Lapin. “From academics to interpersonal relationships, I was amazed at how insightful the students were. They give me great hope for the future,” Lapin said.
