The Grant County Backyard Beekeepers will host visiting Kentucky author Dr. Tammy Horn at 7 pm. Feb. 8 at the Grant County Extension Building at 105 Baton Rouge Rd. in Williamstown.

Dr. Horn, a Hazard County native, teaches literature at Eastern Kentucky University and has become an avid beekeeper.  She has written articles on beekeeping including for the New York Times and her first book, “Bees in America:  How the Honey Bee Shaped a Nation,” which was published in 2005.  Dr. Horn is currently involved in a mine reclamation project with International Coal Group of Hazard to reforest areas with bee-friendly trees and to encourage a beekeeping infrastructure in the Appalachian region. She will speak on both her book and her mine reclamation work.  All are welcome to attend this event, as it will be of interest to non-beekeepers as well.

Dr. Horn’s visit is co-sponsored by the Community Enrichment Through the Arts (CETA) organization.
