The eggs have been found, the bunny has moved on to other things.
The lilies have left the sanctuary; the cross will be put back in the foyer of the church. The Friday fish fries are done for the year. The pastel ties will go back into the closet. The news magazines will get back to everyday politics and world news. Easter is over.
We have a tendency to get through holidays and just move on to the next one. We will begin seeing all the summer items in the stores and soon all the patriotic products ready for the next major holiday.
However, we have to slow down. Moving through Easter and looking forward too quickly robs us of the opportunity to really experience the wonder of the resurrection of Christ.
I wonder if we could commit this year to something different. What if? What if we treated every Sunday like resurrection Sunday? What if we celebrated Christ with the same passion and preparation we did this week? What if we were as excited to bring people to church as we were this Easter? What if we packed our church like we did this year? What if we realized the power of the resurrection each and every week?
The culture around us will move to the next holiday, the next event, the next reason to celebrate. May we be determined to stay in the wonder and awe of the resurrection of Jesus. He has risen.
This can be a time of renewal and commitment and revival. It is really dependent on what we do, after Easter.
See you in church.
